Komatsu UK is 25 Years Old!

So 25 years ago in 1987 Prince Charles opened Komatsu UK in Birtley. Staff celebrated in style with the whole work force in excess of of 400, the BBC TV, Tyne Tees TV, R&B Group (and me!) all in one room!

After press interviews outside in the rain there was a lunch and a factory tour for key figures. Later there were speakers to all who work at Komatsu UK, by Mick Henry, The Leader of Gateshead Council and Peter Howe, Komatsu UK MD and Chairman of Komatsu Europe. The workers looked really proud and very happy to work there which made it easy to capture the big moments and the smaller ones too!

Happy Birthday Komatsu UK!

Komatsu have a visitor in a Helicopter!

I just got back from a really fun shoot at Komatsu UK of a visiting client arriving by helicopter. Hugh of HE Services has his own mode of transport to their annual meeting held on the Komatsu site. I had gritty eyes and a dusty lens but got some fab results! Next there will be some wondrous photoshop work to place him above his team…. (health and safety said ‘NO’! to such a composition!) Watch this space!

And for a bit of helicopter trivia swiped from Wikipedia, the word helicopter is adapted from the French hélicoptère, coined by Gustave de Ponton d’Amecourt in 1861, which originates from the Greek helix/helik- (ἕλιξ) = “twisted, curved” and pteron (πτερόν) = “wing”. (well I am baffled…surely helicopters didn’t exist in 1861…..)
