Hi I am Sarah Deane, an established Portrait Photographer in Newcastle of over 25 years and a female feminist who in her 50’s who feels strongly that women in later life should not become ‘invisible’ and should celebrate who they have become.
‘Her Story’ portraiture was born from listening to women of my age sharing stories, a tribal way of soothing, encouraging and informing. Women of my generation often discuss ageing issues; changes in career, motherhood, hormones and attitudes to life. Women have too long been told to be submissive and quiet but it’s time to recognise we should be allowed to be angry, loud, carefree and liberated!
These worries created a need in me to instil pride in women, to celebrate menopause and not be scared of ageing at a time of life where women can feel their identity shift and a lack of clarity. As a photographer I want to energise, compliment and celebrate all that my subjects have achieved in life and encourage women to focus on themselves with a fun, celebratory and bespoke portrait experience.
These portraits are about more than faces; they tell stories of resilience, love, identity, loss, joy and everything in between. These sessions are for women to enjoy a moment without giving to others and instead give to themselves, focus inwards with a relaxed photo shoot experience resulting in a ‘still life’ piece of art. Images that feel natural and most importantly feel like you.
Her Story exists to challenge outdated ideas of beauty. Every image here features real women, captured with care and creativity. This is about owning your story, feeling seen, heard, and confident at every age. Because age isn’t something to hide, it’s something to honour.
