Actor Headshots

Actor Headshots in Newcastle

Actor headshots are a big deal – they’re your first impression, your calling card, your “Hi, I’m ready for this role!” moment. I’m Sarah Deane, and here in my Newcastle studio, I’ve worked with all sorts of performers – from fresh drama school students to seasoned West End pros. Below, I’ve rounded up the most common questions I get asked about actor headshots, so whether you’re booking your first session or refreshing your portfolio, you’ll know exactly what to expect.

How Should I Pose for Actor Headshots?

This is the number one question I get asked – and it’s a good one! The short answer is: you don’t need to overthink it. The goal of an actor headshot is to look like you, on a really good day.

We’ll work together to find poses that feel natural, confident and expressive – never forced or overly “posed.” I’ll gently guide you with small adjustments to posture, chin, and expression so we capture those subtle looks that casting directors love – neutral, warm, open, thoughtful, intense – whatever suits your casting range. It’s all about authenticity with a dash of charisma.

Top tip: bring a few characters or roles in mind – it helps shape the vibe we’re going for in each look.

What Makes a Good Headshot for Actors?

A great actor headshot should be truthful, engaging, and versatile. Think strong eye contact, clean lighting, and a clear sense of who you are. Casting directors want to see the real you, not an over-edited or overly glam version.

And yes, wardrobe matters – bring a few tops in different colours and necklines and I’ll help you pick the ones that work best on camera. Dress can be simple so not to distract or tailored to accentuate your characters.

How Much Do Actor Headshots Cost?

At my studio, I offer actor headshot packages that start from £150, which includes:

  • A relaxed and fun shoot
  • Outfit changes
  • 40 edited shots for you to choose your favourites from
  • Retouching on your selected images

You’re welcome to bring your agent’s brief or ideas too – I’m happy to collaborate. And because I know how stressful these shoots can feel, I make it relaxed, friendly and even fun!

You can view all the details and book online via my Actor Headshots page.

What is an Actor’s Headshot Called?

You might hear actor headshots referred to as:

  • Casting headshots
  • Spotlight photos
  • Promo shots
  • Or just plain old headshots

They all mean the same thing, really – a professional photograph that shows you clearly, naturally, and confidently. This image is used across casting profiles, agents’ sites, and theatre programmes, so it needs to be spot-on.
