Heineken’s The Staith House North Shields Fish Quay

The old Dolphin of North Shield’s Fish Quay had a refurb last year with new ownership and an excellent new interior. The Fish Quay is an atmospheric spot for last years Master Chef finalist John Calton, wife Kimberly and partner James to set up The Staith House gastro pub. The interior design features local maps, port holes and old timber echoing fishing industry history. They are up early daily at the fish market so their menu boasts creative and exciting seafood dishes fresh every day.

The photography was for Heineken’s pub company Star Pubs & Bars and the brief was to capture my usual Heineken creative documentary shots for their pubs and bar photography including interior design photos, food photography, portrait shots and images of the surrounding fish quay. The sun shone and the kitchen was buzzing with John and his team so this was an absolute treat to photograph.

For the food photography we captured a finished dish; The Staith House famous fish and chips styled with a pint of Caledonian’s Deuchars. It photographed well but the food tasted even better! I can honestly say it was the best fish and chips I have had in years! Check them out at http://thestaithhouse.co.uk as the warmth from the staff together with location and interior make it an unbeatable dining experience.

Star Pubs & Bars, The Four Horseshoes, Surrey

This pub had been empty for ages and situated in a little village on the green it was a fantastic opportunity for a new lessee and a creative modern refurb.

The interior was stuffed with vintage goods collected in charity shops and boot fairs. there were old leather briefcases attached to walls holding newspapers & magazines, a stacked suitcase feature and dangling vintage lamp shades. The pub felt full of colour and texture and warmth!  The whole place was made perfect by the amazing food & drink and of course the super smiley staff!

Heineken’s Star Pubs & Bars, Nationwide

After my jaunt to Glasgow in Autumn last year to shoot the Butchershop Bar & Grill, the following week took me south to Merseyside, Nottingham, Bristol. This is a selection of images taken at the three pubs I was briefed to visit. They were all for articles highlighting food offerings, refurbishments, friendly staff, coffee and ‘Hero’ shots of the brands with pub grub.

If you own a bar and need promotional photography for marketing, website or press hopefully you will see the diversity of images that can capture the personality of your bar or pub. Please drop me a line and tell me more about your requirements, sarah@sarahdeanephotography.co.uk or call 07960 338357

Star Pubs & Bars, Butchershop Bar & Grill, Glasgow

This is a fantastic Glaswegian bar with a New York Grill theme that boasts an amazing menu, superb cocktails and an inventive interior. It is owned by Heineken’s Star Pubs & Bars and coincidentally it’s leased by an ex Newcastle College student who did a detour into the leisure industry after completing an art based course.

The brief was to capture illustrative photography for an article featuring this venue, it’s interior, staff, kitchen and a little food. Despite being a ‘butcher shop grill’ I photographed my dinner, a goats cheese soufflé (yup I am a veggie!) with rocket and hazelnuts… YUM YUM. But I am sure you will get the feel of the place without the rump steaks!

Arlo Cafe Bistro’s Food & Family

I LOVE ARLO! The food is tremendous the staff are just gorgeous and the place is run by one of the nicest families you’d hope to meet. Susan & Lucas are perfect hosts and the kids Otis, Lola, Arlo and Luna (a cool 4 letter theme) are often in there munching on the cakes looking super edible themselves.

The photography brief was to capture food, staff and family in a two hour window so luckily my experience in 2 of my specialist areas, food and portraits made it thorough yet enjoyable. I was shooting the kids (people often snigger when I use this term- but you know what I mean..) whilst the chef whipped up the new international menu.

The food photography was executed on the wooden tables in the cafe and I used a mixture of natural blue toned light to highlight the clarity of the food & with the warm glow of tungsten light in the back ground. For any budding food photographers, use a macro lens and a shallow depth of field for food photography. You dont need it all in focus, just the tasty bits and be prepared to work fast to get the freshest look.

The staff portraits were shot as the team worked which created a lovely informality with lots of fun expressions and movement. They then cleaned up then chowed down for a low key meal & meeting coupled with a predatory photographer. They seemed game (thanks Dan)! For more images taken of family & staff, or just to check out the food menu check out their site on this live link http://arlojesmond.com/category/general/
